SERIES XIII
1) Judgements go awry if the contexts
change.
3) Love ends in
marriage. But marriage can resuscitate
Love if the hearts can accept Mother in love.
Love
is too pure to live in human hearts.
4) The
heart that longs for love can only long and yearn but cannot ask for it, as
what is got by asking cannot be LOVE.
5) To die for the beloved is an ecstasy life
often offers. To live for the beloved in love is what Mother always offers
and man finds it difficult to receive from Her.
6) Conscious gift to
unconsciousness.
It is a condition where foresight is not
born yet.
7) The idealist tries to train his nature’s
urge along the lines of his aim.
8) The
more one understands The Life Divine
the more the atmosphere grows strong.
9) Man
does not know the divine joy or peace, etc. but all devotees have been touched
by the loving grace of them.
10) Affectionate
persons never give up their rivals consciously. All serve their rivals subconsciously.
12) Life Response is a Timeless response.
13) One who has all the right to everything but
is unable to bring himself to ask for what is his own is a MAN of manly honour
and vigour of manhood.
Love can be given unasked but even love
cannot be asked for seriously.
14) He
who discovers love in life is one who gives that love so that it is evoked from other hearts, not one who expects
it from others.
Love
is Love that travels in one direction.
Human love becomes divine love when the one direction becomes two directions.
15)
·
When energy is
great, income takes care of itself.
·
When strength
is great, security is instinctive.
·
When faith is
great, courage overflows.
·
When cheerfulness overflows, Remembrance is
automatic.
·
When GOODWILL
is native, popularity is natural.
·
When status is
long inherited, capacity is innate.
·
Seeing That
inside, capacity, popularity, remembrance, courage, security, and prosperity are
forgotten.
16) May
my heart, soul and being give themselves fully to Him and to Her.
17) Mother
is compelling us to have our own personal spiritual discrimination, denying
even access to where SHE lived. One has to decide even that by his own
discrimination.
Mother is an iconoclast. She
breaks even that icon where her body is laid to rest.
18) The dark forces that arose as the two World Wars now
persist in other forms. The Mother and Sri Aurobindo who have abolished the
wars from the face of earth paid a subtle price for it by abolishing their own
abode.
The hostile forces in
retaliation wiped out their own world and occupy it now.
19) If
not the right motives for prosperity, people will release their urge for more.
20) As
something rises in the being, the vital and mental take it up. The psychic
taking it up straight before it is touched by mind or vital is consecration.
21) Having

gratitude.
It is in patience one recognises
the value of gratitude.
22) The
organisation retains Him as a dark shadow. He is behind it with Her brilliantly.
23) He
who writes for an audience writes at the level they are. Having universalised
human thought, the poet must WRITE not for the audience, but for what he is
inside.
Writing that disregards the writer lives forever.
Eternal writings write on their own.
24)
The
world will take infinite interest in the lives of a successful scoundrel and
successful idealist, both in the same fashion.
26) Equality
forgets the known as it does the unknown.
27) Knowledge
transforms opposition.
28) To
be civilized, one should concede equal rights to all others. To be yogic, one
should concede every event is a marvel.
29) Education is the yoga of the society.
30) Yoga
is to see the world inside and then go away from it to its centre.
The tapasvi goes away from life;
the yogi goes away from the life of the world inside.
31) To
decide to surrender is a mental decision.
32) Created faith creates
disharmony.
33) Insecurity
is for those who love security. Those who love danger are always secure.

merciful to the weak, though a great help comes their way because of changing
circumstances.

who stand on the shoulders of giants of the past either become serious thinkers
or degenerate into journalists.
36) Mean, perverse falsehood seeks
humiliation with ardent love and a sense of sacred privilege.
37) The
corrupt politicians amassing wealth sets the nation’s sights higher, compelling
everyone to aspire for prosperity.
Naturally they have to work hard to reach their goal.
The
common man cannot grow rich by corruption, though his ways will be corrupt.

man;
Goalless
God.

is best done not as a spiritual discipline but as something enjoyable by
itself.
50) Consecration elevates one to be Mother,
surrender makes him Sri Aurobindo.
51) The
rule is never to help anyone if you do not want to be hit, hurt, opposed and
betrayed. He who wants to overrule the rule helps others voluntarily in double
measure and is not hurt but praised.
What
you get depends on how you give.
52) When man resorts to consecration, God acts
through him.
53) Each
act has both the dimensions of good as well as bad or the evolutionary right
and its opposite. In human action, the result is determined by that which
excels the other. In the right action they blend to produce a great result.
54) Divine Life requires one to value things while they are
available in plenty and value them not only in their absence.
55) Yoga is the spiritual exercise of what
magic vitally does. Rules are the same.
56) He
who laughs at another’s folly is only laughing at his own folly.
What
appears as folly to us in another is the most right thing seen from his own
perspective. Not being able to see it is folly.
57) All folly is inside.
58) Mind extends itself by thinking.
59) Intellect
takes the mind to the level of its understanding and it can become intuition of
that level, if it can part with its sense impressions.
61) If diet or drug can control bodily conditions,
thoughts can better control the same.

accepts Mother. How can he hanker after
nostalgia?

nothing is happening we feel it is loss of time. Instead the action moves from
the surface to the subliminal and is preparing there.
Non action is subliminal action
in preparation.

possible.
No

that can dissolve its karma.
250) Perfection
of skill demands totality of vision.
251) Independence
and self-respect are noble and magnificent. In small
characters, they degenerate into fads of unseemly,
self-asserting, dry offence.
Self-respecting independence mellows into
culture when it sweetly receives
what is lovingly offered.
Human
self-respect becomes Self-respect when it gives it up in favour of love and affection.
252) The
offensive evil accuses independence of impertinence. Had the defending man been humble, the evil will
accuse him of being crafty and clever
instead. The intention is evil.
Without
destroying organised evil, there is no use in trying to discover various appropriate behaviours. It is weakness that looks for politeness.
253) One
can list the occasions where irrationality passes as rationality, superstition is honoured, blatant falsehood

254) The
birth of the Supramental being needs several things at several levels.

255) Sri
Aurobindo told us what to do to be transformed. They are surrender on our part and transformation by Her. We don’t know how this is necessary. The Life Divine tells us this.
To know that helps overcome the physical mind’s Ignorance.

to represent the collective and fulfill their aims, the Individual needs to be stronger than the
collective. Otherwise he would be
crushed.
The
Individual dominating the collective will be able to serve them.
257) In
the life of ego we now live, authority is demanded at all levels from above and readily conceded from

in the vital as the vital expands the atmosphere for self-defence.

·
Yoga is
changing from Natural evolution to spiritual evolution.
·
Nature
leisurely enjoys developing forms.

Spirit evolves
consciousness.
·
One is free to
shift from Nature to Spirit.
·
It is a rare joy which the spirit seeks.
·
Shifting from
Monarchy to Democracy, the individual evolves.
·
Shifting to
new technology, speed of social evolution rises. It is organisation of knowledge.
·
Yoga is
organisation of consciousness.

262) The
great retains its greatness even in serving the small.
263) The
man who feels that he does not like to be told what to do is one who has been vitally disciplined against
his will. It is a declaration that he is
unwilling to get out of his own
folly.
265) Behaviour
can be so thoroughly good and excellent that it can completely veil the very opposite of character.
But acts will always reveal not only character
but the deeper nature.
266) Consecration
that overcomes running thoughts solves problems. To avail of opportunities, one must be able to
consecrate the mental occupation. Neither is enough for yoga which
requires the surrender of nature that is occupied.
267) It is
the force of social change that expresses as Darcy’s love for Elizabeth. Hence
its irresistibility. Do we see that our
acts are expressions of Shakti’s
move?
268) Status
is far more powerful than dynamism as it infinitely sustains the dynamic activity just as skill is
vastly more resourceful than a one time help.
The
psychic is the centre of cosmic energy in calm.
270) One
may have to know to whom his services are due.
Of
the many things you need to know, one important thing is about your services, if you are an idealist.
271)

278) Man
exerts himself at the plane he is centred in. The yogi’s only work is to turn all his urges to Him, making
consecration his only work. God enjoys
the revealing marvel of involution as well as evolution.

information. If done properly, if there
is a wrong it can be rectified.
283) In
our own life, though it is a small circle, we know moments of joy and we know all
its rules. We do often cross the limits a little, but quickly come back. The
joy lies in crossing the limits, though we know it will hurt. It is
equally true that we are never hurt.
There
is no danger at all in a life dependent on Mother as long as we honour the limits. Still crossing the limits a little enriches the joy.

Justification with another arises in a heart where there is no self-justification. It can be selfish.
There
is no selfishness in Self-justification.

from pain or Timelessness from Time, because here man is the instrument of
evolution.
Had
evolution been centred in life, perhaps evolution may be emerging joy from pain.
288) When
consecration crosses occupation into a semblance of substance, one tastes Timelessness in existence.
To
know concretely that we make our world is, in a sense, to cross Time. Crossing
Time, one can enter Timelessness of simultaneous integrality.

294) The
weightage for age is so great in India and even elsewhere that leaders who emerged famous collected
followers around them only from their

This
is a wide sweeping rule that covers Gandhiji, Sri Aurobindo, and a host of others, though Caesar and
Napoleon are exceptions.
295) Philosophic urges of the unlettered is the
parallel for the scientists’ quest
for the formula of the universe.
For
one in the early stages of a quest on the right track, what remains is stupendous work. What about one
who, like the scientist, is looking for consciousness
in Matter?
His best bet is he will discover the nature of his quest. Seeking knowledge in Ignorance, one
will discover the ultimate
Brahman.
296) Wisdom
begins when complete folly becomes a concrete experience.
One
can easily see the complete folly of others, not his own. As man is evolved as an instrument of perfect

language.
